History:
Yorkie terriers were brought to Australia
from England in the 1800s. These dogs were bred with native Australian
terriers. The result eventually led to the Silky Terrier. Many years
of disagreement over the standards of the breed were finally settled in
1926. The breed achieved AKC recognition in 1955.
Temperament:
Don't let the small size fool you. The
Silky is all-terrier..always ready for action. It is bold and inquisitive..a
great watchdog for the house. It is very clever and can be stubborn at
times.
Maintenance:
An active
breed that needs more exercise than other small dogs. Silkys love vigorous
games. The coat needs brushing
every other day.
